Many who know me well know I have a warm love for animals- especially cats. In 1994 I got two kittens who filled my heart with love every single day for 16+ years, until it was time for them to move onto their next chapter. Below is a photo of Nat & Gypsy taken about 3 years ago in the living-room of my house in North Truro.

My heart melted when I read this article regarding a wonderful lady living in Wilmington, NC decided to donate her second home here in Provincetown to the Humane Society of the United States. The condo will be sold and the proceeds donated. Click here to read this heartfelt article.

Provincetown Real Estate: Vacation rentals

The Provincetown office of Century 21 Shoreland does NOT handle any rentals as we focus on what we do best- helping Buyers and Sellers. However, as I was looking through the New York Times website this weekend, I came across a terrific article about some of the very popular vacation rental websites which property owners use as they are seeking vacation renters. My favorite website I refer Clients to looking for a weekly rental here in Provincetown is www.homeaway.com. This site is also mentioned in the NY Times article I was reading. Provincetown could recycle more?

I must admit, I love recycling! I was thrilled to learn the Provincetown Transfer station now has a stream line system in which you no longer have to separate glass, paper, plastic, etc. You can throw all recyclable materials into one container at the Transfer Station, making easier than ever to recycle! Because of this ease, the amount of solid waste trash bags being disposed has decreased.

I was online this morning reading an article of a very successful system employed in Sandwich at the other end of Cape Cod. Starting July 1, 2011 residents must pay for each trash bag for solid waste while recycling is free! This system to me is a win/win situation: the town will save money hauling solid waste to an off Cape location, recycling increased dramatically and due to significant increase in recycling (free!), the cost to residents for the solid waste bags is minimal.

Provincetown Pilgrim Monument beginning a restoration project

The interior of the iconic Pilgrim Monument is at the beginning of a five-month restoration project that will strengthen and restore the inside structure and stairways, as well as spruce up the observation deck in order to, according to Monument representatives, enhance the visitor experience.

Provincetown Real Estate: Provincetown tax rate set for FY 2012

I have been listing and selling real estate here in Provincetown for 10+ years. The biggest question I get from all past, present and future Clients is always regarding the assessed value of property and the current tax rate (per thousand of assessed value). I am pleased to say that Provincetown had their FY 2012 tax rate set early this year at $7.20 per thousand dollars of assessed value (vs $6.81 in FY 2011)!
